After decades of success in the institutional investment business development arena at the likes of Alliance Bernstein, Allianz and Deutsche, I began to notice something was awry. As I narrowed my focus, it became more and more apparent that there was a problem - and it was getting bigger and bigger whilst remaining unaddressed.
Barely 2% of private equity funding is committed to supporting the visions of women-led firms.
I turned my attention to this dramatic lack of:
amongst the 98% unfunded founders and their businesses - And so I began building connections and networks amongst these groups.
I started with brilliant female-founded firms - woefully underserved by both public and private financial services - and used my experience in the investment world to help with capital formation, strategy & networking, education and peer-to-peer support.
Over a few short years, we expanded to include other underrepresented leadership groups such as foreign-born, LGBTQIA+, and differently abled-led businesses all of whom represent the richness and nuance of our modern societies.
I’ve been building this ever-expanding ecosystem in allyship with all of these groups, and have now put together an investment team to aggregate the interest and existing momentum of potential investors into our first fund to better serve exactly these brilliant and underrepresented founders and their businesses.
This is the future of impact investment - no identity-based hand wringing or political smoke and mirrors - simply widening the pool to a stream, to a river and to a Waterfall. By expanding the diversity of both operators and markets, we continue to cultivate new growth in previously unimagined environments.
